Qatar crackdown on drug abusers and traders
The Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a young man to three years in jail and imposed a fine of QR200,000 for drug abuse and trade, local daily Al Sharq has reported.
The Department of Narcotics Combating acted on a tip-off that a youngster was dealing in narcotic materials such as hashish.
The house of the accused was raided with the permission of the Public Prosecution. The raiding team seized a bag with 201 narcotic pills and another one with 200 pills. Other types of narcotics were also found during the raid.
The court has convicted the accused under Article 41 of the Penal Law for abuse of narcotics and Article 44 of the Narcotics Combating Law. The punishment was made lighter as he had no previous record of offences, the daily added.
Meanwhile, the Al Shamal Security Department has seized locally brewed liquor from seven Asian expatriates involved in the production and sale of alcohol, local daily
Al Watan has reported.
During investigation, the officers learnt that the seven arrested persons used to brew the liquor in a house and fill it in bottles of different sizes.
The accused have been referred to the competent authorities to complete the investigation before they are transferred to the prosecution for legal procedures,
according to the daily.
In another case, the Criminal Court has sentenced a young man to one year in jail followed by deportation for breaking the front glass of a car and stealing money, local daily Al Sharq has reported.
According to the plaintiff, he left his car in the parking of the building he was living in. He later found that the front glass of his car was broken and QR12,000 was stolen from
the car.
The investigation by the Capital Security Department proved that the accused had committed many such crimes. The police had found gloves with blood stains at the place of the theft.
The blood samples of the accused and the blood stains on the gloves were matched. He was also identified by the footage from the surveillance cameras in and around malls in Doha, the daily added.

ok..anyone who leaves 12k in a car is asking to have it stolen..i can understand people wanting to not walk around with too much money but its no safer in a car than in your pocket..especially in qatar where muggings or armed robberies are extremely rare, more so than car break-ins which are on the rise..
