Qatar flatly rejects Trump’s plan to ‘relocate’ Palestinians from Gaza
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, during a six-party Arab ministerial meeting in Cairo on the situation in Palestine, reiterated Qatar’s categorical rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
Sheikh Mohammed pointed out that any such calls would renew confrontations in the Occupied Palestinian territories and worsen the suffering of the Palestinians.
The meeting, convened at the invitation of Egypt, brought together the foreign ministers Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and the UAE, along with the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization representing Palestine, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League.
Discussions during the meeting dealt with a host of topics, primarily the displacement of Palestinians, consolidating the Gaza ceasefire agreement, adequate and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip, and the need to support the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to perform its UN mandate.
Rejection of Trump’s call for displacement of Palestinians
The Arab foreign ministers rejected the transfer of Palestinians from their land under any circumstances, presenting a unified stance against US President Donald Trump’s call for Egypt and Jordan to take in residents of the Gaza Strip.
In a joint statement, foreign ministers and officials from Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, the Palestinian Authority, and the Arab League said such a move would threaten stability in the region, spread conflict, and undermine prospects for peace.
“We affirm our rejection of (any attempts) to compromise Palestinians’ unalienable rights, whether through settlement activities, or evictions or annex of land or through vacating the land from its owners... in any form or under any circumstances or justifications,” the statement read.
The high-power group added that they were looking forward to working with Trump’s administration to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East based on a two-state solution.
Qatar-Egypt truce efforts lauded
The joint statement also commended the pivotal mediation efforts by Qatar and Egypt that led to a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of hostages and detainees.
