The way Qatar defeats the economic embargo is highly impressive. As a practicing business consultant in Qatar over 6 years, I would like to suggest the following things to be taken in to consideration seriously by the concerned authorities for more reliable and sustainable economy. As we know we all involve in certain economic activities in order to meet our needs at different levels (Basic/Middle/Upper). So everyone should get their efforts paid on time thereby they can use the money they earned to buy their needs. If any one (As an Employee or Employer ) is not paid on time, that will effect the entire economy. The introduction of Wage Protection System (WPS) in 2015 is a good step by government and it has helped the employees to get their salaries on time to a great extent. But the employers are struggling too much to pay their employees as they are facing delay in receiving their money from their customers. I do not understand what is the basis of making difference between employee and employers. According to me both employees and employers should be treated in the same way with regard to the payments and collections. An employer cant pay without getting his receivables cleared on time. Same as employees he also spend his time and efforts for his business so he also deserves to be paid on time. If there is not employer there is no employee. So the priority should be given to protect the rights of employers and implement measures to ensure the employer pays their employees on time. As the major cash flows are from the government projects and some of the main contractors are delaying the payments to their sub contractors ( here the Main Employer is the main contractor and the employee is the subcontractor) and the subcontractors struggles to pay their employees on time due to the aforementioned delay. I believe that the government is seriously investigating to the delay in payments to the contractors related to public projects and will take a strong action to protect the employers rights too. Successful SMEs are the real back born of any economy as they offer much higher amount of employment for both employees and employers. Also they bring lots of innovation to improve our living standards. Taking care of them is vital for more reliable and sustainable economy. Hope government will take some serious measures to protect SMEs receivables same as W.P.S implemented. I have some ideas in to this point to be shared with any concerned authorities.
