Private sector to play a bigger role in country’s growth, says Qatar Chamber chief
Qatar’s private sector firms have a much bigger role to play in the country’s economic growth in the future, a top official with the Qatar Chamber (QC) has said.
The newly-elected board members, who will serve a five year-term between 2018 and 2023, has vowed to devote efforts towards self-reliance, according to QC Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani.
He said the next stage will be focused on self-sufficiency, especially after Qatar overcame the challenges of the economic blockade imposed on the country in June last year.
“By electing its sixth board of directors, Qatar Chamber begins a new phase of its march with more focus on promoting a bigger role for the private sector in the economic process,” Sheikh Khalifa was quoted as saying by Gulf Times.
“In fact, the siege stimulated the establishment of new projects in all sectors and reinforced the national production as a means to reduce the reliance on imports. Qatar Chamber has been committed to representing and protecting the interests of the private sector locally and globally. It exerted all possible efforts to eradicate all obstacles that may hinder the private sector to play its expected role in the economic process,” he was quoted as saying.
In retrospect, the previous board’s accomplishments includes the development of a work strategy to help the chamber play a significant role in the economy in line with the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030, as well as to provide optimal services to its members.
Similarly, the Qatar Chamber’s sectorial committees sought appropriate solutions to private sector-related issues and challenges, and delivered the private sector’s views to government bodies to reach adequate solutions, Sheikh Khalifa said.
He noted that Qatar Chamber played a significant role in the economic development ‘by giving inputs on legislation and laws relating to the private sector.’ It also has strengthened co-operation with all government entities, and attained an active presence in many regional and international forums and events, the chairman said.
kallil: good post buddy; i too have been hearing about and wondering why payments are being delayed even on government projects; surely there are no liquidity issues at their end and i can't come up with any reasonable theory as to what the issue is.
The way Qatar defeats the economic embargo is highly impressive. As a practicing business consultant in Qatar over 6 years, I would like to suggest the following things to be taken in to consideration seriously by the concerned authorities for more reliable and sustainable economy. As we know we all involve in certain economic activities in order to meet our needs at different levels (Basic/Middle/Upper). So everyone should get their efforts paid on time thereby they can use the money they earned to buy their needs. If any one (As an Employee or Employer ) is not paid on time, that will effect the entire economy. The introduction of Wage Protection System (WPS) in 2015 is a good step by government and it has helped the employees to get their salaries on time to a great extent. But the employers are struggling too much to pay their employees as they are facing delay in receiving their money from their customers. I do not understand what is the basis of making difference between employee and employers. According to me both employees and employers should be treated in the same way with regard to the payments and collections. An employer cant pay without getting his receivables cleared on time. Same as employees he also spend his time and efforts for his business so he also deserves to be paid on time. If there is not employer there is no employee. So the priority should be given to protect the rights of employers and implement measures to ensure the employer pays their employees on time. As the major cash flows are from the government projects and some of the main contractors are delaying the payments to their sub contractors ( here the Main Employer is the main contractor and the employee is the subcontractor) and the subcontractors struggles to pay their employees on time due to the aforementioned delay. I believe that the government is seriously investigating to the delay in payments to the contractors related to public projects and will take a strong action to protect the employers rights too. Successful SMEs are the real back born of any economy as they offer much higher amount of employment for both employees and employers. Also they bring lots of innovation to improve our living standards. Taking care of them is vital for more reliable and sustainable economy. Hope government will take some serious measures to protect SMEs receivables same as W.P.S implemented. I have some ideas in to this point to be shared with any concerned authorities.

Currently maximum private firms are struggling to just pay their workers on time, some companies even touches 3 to 4 month in salary delays.
Hope, above statement will work so that all private related expats can enjoy their life.
Yes, Really that is very true .....................
