I have seen at airports that when there is an injustice to the passengers (usually there is a group), the rule 'the door the squeaks gets the oil' applies. The louder you complain, the more likely you are to get compensation. Otherwise, forget it.
Another thing i have learned from experience is that after confirming a flight, or a date change on the phone. Always call back after a while to reconfirm. Another agent will pick up and hence you'l find out in case the first on made a mistake or just forgot to press save in the end or in case the system crashed and your change didn't take effect. It's like the double accounting principle :)
