Today I went to Airport to leave my Sister and at the Check in Counter the Qatar Staff said there is no SEAT Flight is overbooked. I was shocked and when approached to their Sr. Staff same Answer and requested to travel Tomorrow.

Disgusting how can they cheat a Passenger like this ?

Please help me to approach right way to take this to their Higher level and would like to inform ALL to check Your Ticket comes under "overbooked" situation.

Thanks in advance for your help.

this is to get a full load, and take care of no show passengers, this is remarks from QA Staff, and we are not talking about one and 2 people, you are looking at more like 30 to 50 passengers on an airbus 330.

However, if you are a confirmed ticket holder, you need to be at the counter at least 3 hours before boarding.

Reminds me of a time while flying Emirates from Qatar. They gave us our boarding pass with out the chit for our baggage. while passing through immigration, we noted the flaw and got one of the emirates staff to check for us. Imagine our surprise when we were upgraded to business class - yippie

But as some one mentioned, you need to make a scene at the counter itself to get noticed and attended to, or you get sweeped under the rug.

I dont know, if it is only in Qatar. But customer service sucks.

lakes, are you sure about that? Do IATA rules allow overbooking? This would be very interesting indeed!

However, airlines routinely over book flights. It is not illegal. But in case a passenger is denied boarding, a suitable compensation should be offered. Hotel stay or a cash incentive. You should deal with that on the spot. Now it is more difficult. But Good Luck!

Rock thanks for the Joke but actually it's the fact that you stated. It is exactly the way it is happening.

I personally went to Qatar Office and extended the Date on Ticket and when asked should I reconfirm they said no and can reach Airport 2/3 hours before the flight.

If over booking is usual they MUST inform the Passenger that you are already in overbook flight and if it is important reconfirm either one day before or 4/5 hours before, that's it.

No, its not cheating. All airlines has the right to overbook, to compensate for those passengers who sometimes doesn't turn up. C'est la vie as they say.

Hey Riyaz, i hope you dont' mind the joke on your thread :)

Now here's the serious answer.

I have seen at airports that when there is an injustice to the passengers (usually there is a group), the rule 'the door the squeaks gets the oil' applies. The louder you complain, the more likely you are to get compensation. Otherwise, forget it.

Another thing i have learned from experience is that after confirming a flight, or a date change on the phone. Always call back after a while to reconfirm. Another agent will pick up and hence you'l find out in case the first on made a mistake or just forgot to press save in the end or in case the system crashed and your change didn't take effect. It's like the double accounting principle :)

It's mandatory here.

yeah, it goes like this. Sometimes when the plane conductor has called in sick, they get a substitute conductor from a karwa bus And this guy usually mixes up the number of seats available on the bus vs the number of seats on a airbus, hence it results in the over-booking.

L_K I checked with Staff at Almana Tower Office when I extended the Date and reached Airport 2 and half hour before.

Last year I went 1 and half hour before and there was no issue as such.

... if she was booked on a flight to the EU.

The phrase is 'denied boarding' and she could get Euro 600

See the EU regulation:

Booking rule stipulates reporting airport atleast 3 hours before departure. So if you want to fly.... get going early....

every flight with any airline is overbooked. The rule here is first come first serve :) If you dont get a seat the airline must give you another flight.

this is a common way used by the airlines to get the flights full any way. These are based on some statistics.

So your complain will result in nothing sorry.

That's why if you are not flying First or Business Class, you should check in early and get your seat assignment.
