What's really bad is that the hard-drive manufactures and operating system designers can't agree on a common language. It wouldn't matter what MB meant if you plugged in the drive and the capacity was the same as advertised.
Didn't someone try to define another unit, the mibabyte, or something similar, to try to solve the confusion. Of course, no one thought it was a good idea.
