During the years 2008 till 2010 I used to live in Riyadh and drove to/from Doha a couple of times during which I got the visa on arrival.
One of the problems some of my colleagues faced was that the Qatari borders officers would sometimes require the original Iqama and not a copy of it. This is stupid because, as per Saudi law, you should hand over your Iqama to your sponsor in order to get your passport. Anyways and as a work around, my colleagues asked our sponsor to issue for them letters confirming that they work there, and have this letter attested by the Saudi Commercial Chambre.
