No a pet store purchase is not a rescue, the only way they will improve their standards is if it makes good business sense. As people seem perfectly happy to pay upwards of 2000QR for an unhappy, unhealthy usually ringworm infested puppy who was removed from it's mother at 2 weeks and flown in from Egypt it continues. The mother is probably stuck in some revolting puppy farm in Egypt or eastern Europe forced to have litter after litter until she is left to starve to death when she is no longer making money.

Sorry, I know as an indivual it feels good to "rescue" a puppy from the pet shop but, believe me, after years of veterinary and pet travel experience, as long as there is a demand there is always a nasty, cruel supply. The same pet store also sells parrots who have been trapped in the wild, monkeys, baboons, sugargliders, the list goes on. Personally I would not support that.
