Jasmine, people are entitled to their opinions. I am not going to argue with anyone on this, but I can afford only one pet in the small place I live. If I could I would have more than one. But if I can take one dog out of misery I would and did. I did not pay upwards of 2000 or anywhere close.
It is a great pet. My family loves it immensely and care for it. It is not a sick pet. Took it to Dohavets for a complete check up and vaccine shots and he is all clear.
Bottomline: Theory and ideologies apart, I have given him a good home. If it is not a rescue, so be it. If and when he gets sick (God Forbid) we will take care of it.
No a pet store purchase is not a rescue, the only way they will improve their standards is if it makes good business sense. As people seem perfectly happy to pay upwards of 2000QR for an unhappy, unhealthy usually ringworm infested puppy who was removed from it's mother at 2 weeks and flown in from Egypt it continues. The mother is probably stuck in some revolting puppy farm in Egypt or eastern Europe forced to have litter after litter until she is left to starve to death when she is no longer making money.
Sorry, I know as an indivual it feels good to "rescue" a puppy from the pet shop but, believe me, after years of veterinary and pet travel experience, as long as there is a demand there is always a nasty, cruel supply. The same pet store also sells parrots who have been trapped in the wild, monkeys, baboons, sugargliders, the list goes on. Personally I would not support that.
Chelsea, You are right. It is a mix - poodle and pom as we were informed by the vets.
However, I don't think I have paid any more or less than what I should have just because I picked it up from a pet store and not from QAWS (though I am a regular at QAWS for donations and went there once to adopt as well). A pet store purchase here is a 'rescue' as well.
I have had dogs back home at different points though I may not be knowing much about Yorkie or small breeds. I am doing some research on them now though.
And, we are enjoying him inclusive of all the barking and the chewing etc. He seems to be enjoying us too. It was a great decision to gift him to my twins as a birthday gift.
Haha JJ! SUPRISE!! Have something that's going to destroy all your shoes, chew your furniture, poop and pee all over the house, bark all night and keep you awake, cost a small fortune in vets costs, food, grooming, equipment etc and live for 15 years! And people wonder why so many puppies are dumped at shelters after they've been given as a present!?

puppies make an ideal surprise birthday present
As far as I'm aware black and white yorkshire terriers don't exist so I hope you didn't pay lots of money for it thinking it's a purebred!!
Good luck with your new puppy...
Erm, so whats the question?
I missed the part where you're asking a question...
