There was an article in yesterday's Gulf Times (I think was there and not The Peninsula, but I can't find it now, anyway) which told the story of a Qatari who had married a muslim woman in HER country and when he came back to Qatar the authorities wouldn't recognise the marriage certificate.
May not be relevant to your question, but the guy I mention seems to be still trying to sort the confusion out and I guess until he does he isn't married in the eyes of the powers wot be in Qatar.
