Obtaining divorces in Doha

Scarlett
By Scarlett

I have a friend who is married and wants to get a divorce from her husband...she needs help, so knowing all you as I do, you know much more about this than I do, so I'm coming to you for your assistance. (and no, its NOT me...I'm going to torture my husband quite a few more years first)

She wants to know... can it be done, how to go about it, how much it costs, and how fast does it occur? They have no children and nothing to divide since they weren't married very long. I don't believe they were married in Qatar either.

Any and all help will be appreciated!

All below said is valid for non-muslims. I believe it applies to muslim citizen of non-islamic countries as well.

1. Divorce should be recognizable in the country where the marriage was registered.

2. If both of them have different nationality and the marriage was registered in third country, check if it has been properly legalized in the countries of citizenship of both of them respectively. If not, they might be still considered single by their respective countries.

3. If they are citizen of the same country, they should resolve the matter in the country of their citizenship.

4. In all cases don't bother getting a divorce from Qatari authorities. Qatar is not a member of the Hague Convention, and documents from Qatar require full consular legalization, and even so, might be not recognized by the country of citizenship.

The right place to ask is the consular department of the embassy of the country of citizenship of your friend.

I didn't mention their nationality because it might identify them here. That was left out on purpose. Not sure if they are on this site or not.

t_coffee...they ARE married..geez...

the divorce is NOT contested by either party.

Search engine...RED, I would look but I can't find the dang thing on my website page...mine got losted...may I borrow yours???

ooo and united..she checked with her embassy, and even in her own country...will take years in her country so she's trying here.

King...as always...thank you my son...I knew there was a reason I adopted you...

KelllysH...I will have to refrain from DME on my resume also...I do however have a 26 year MME...(Marriage Matters Expert), behind my name.

Jauntie...and everyone else I might have missed...THANK YOU and howdy! I am sorely missing you all here!

Any idea what their Nationality & Religion is?

In Doha, There are a lot of headaches to go through.

One of my dear friends was looking for a divorce too and decided to approach the court. The court asked her for the NO OBJECTION LETTER from the embassy. Wat The Hell ?!?!?!?

So seeing all the troubles she had to go through just for a divorce, she decided to endure her marriage a lil more longer with her loving HUBBY !!!

Haaaa...!!!

WOMEN !!!????

I checked this matter for canadians, who got married in Canada. In this case divorce can be obtained only in Canada... So it depends on their nationality as well as where they got married, nd not only depends on their religion. Because even both Canadians are muslims, they have to go to canada to get divorced.

Good morning and how are you doing today and everyday? Hope that you are just doing fine. Well I have a great idea because someone who is very close to my heart get divorced and I went through all the trouble with her from time to time until she got it.

Well, hopefully there is no problems between them and both are agreed to that divorce. If she have problems [like her husband is hitting her, disrespect her, etc ....] then she should just open a case against him in the Primary Court asking for divorce.

The application form can be found there in front of it and you can fill it there and apply. They will of course talk to her to know what is the issue and one of the Judges will meet her. After that they will inform the husband and they will just announce a date for meeting where both would come and the judge would listen to both.

After that they will just transfer you to somewhere else [all of this would be most probably if the husband refuses to give her the divorce otherwise it won't take that much] which is the Supreme Council for the Family and they would have meetings with each one alone and then both and from there they will send the feedback to the court again and another meetings would be held and the story is really long especially if the husband does not want to give her divorce easily.

The cost of it depends on:

1- If she want to hire a lawyer then that depends on her and the one she hires.

2- Opening a case will not cost that much and I remember something around 50-125 Q.R

3- If she wants to ask someone for example, her brother or father to be in charge for talking instead of her, going from here to there and sign the papers without she even be there then she has to go somewhere to get this paper first and it will cost 75 Q.R

4- Additional fees would be like 150 Q.R in the end, I'm not really sure about the total costs for that because honestly, back then I was ready to pay anything to free her from that idiot [sorry] known as her husband.

Those goes for Citizens and Arabic nationality and I'm not sure about the European or American Nationalities or Civilians Laws or if Qatar Divorce Laws apply to them.

Best Regards

good morning! nice to see you :o)

You said "I don't believe they were married in Qatar either".

There was an article in yesterday's Gulf Times (I think was there and not The Peninsula, but I can't find it now, anyway) which told the story of a Qatari who had married a muslim woman in HER country and when he came back to Qatar the authorities wouldn't recognise the marriage certificate.

May not be relevant to your question, but the guy I mention seems to be still trying to sort the confusion out and I guess until he does he isn't married in the eyes of the powers wot be in Qatar.

In a poor zoo of India , a lion was frustrated as he was offered not

more than 1 kg of meat a day.

The lion thought its prayers were answered. when one day a Dubai Zoo Manager visited the zoo and requested the zoo management to shift the lion to Dubai Zoo.

The lion was so happy and started thinking of a central A/C environment, a goat or two every day. On its first day after arrival, the lion was offered a big bag, sealed very nicely for breakfast.

The lion opened it quickly but was shocked to see that it contained few bananas. The lion thought that may be they cared too much for him as they were worried about his stomach as he had recently shifted from India .

The next day the same thing happened. On the third day again the same food bag of bananas was delivered. The lion was so furious; it stopped the delivery boyand blasted at him,' don't you know I am the lion...king of the Jungle...,

what's wrong with your management?

What nonsense is this? Why are you delivering bananas to me?

The delivery boy politely said, 'Sir, I know you are the king of the jungle ... but... you have been brought here on a monkey's visa !!! '

Let me share this with you in a satirists manner.

It cost me $50.00 to get a marriage license.

It cost me 19 years of sacrifice, love and care to be married.

It brought Joy and continues happiness of sharing with another being of my own blood, no price on that one.

It cost me $45,000 dollars to say one time in a piece of paper " I divorce you woman".

No one wins in a divorce, is painful and takes years and real friends to recover.

it's religion not nationality which makes a difference.

If she's Muslim, she has to prove that the husband is not taking care of her, not fulfilling her needs, or there is instability. She should also state "I divorce you" three times.

If she's not Muslim, the process can be done just as it can be done in any other country.

You would suggest calling a lawyer and getting the appropriate details as Red_pope suggested.

I hope I'm right on this one. But someone post it in previous forum a list of lawyers in Doha. Your friend could call them and get a free assessment.

So knowing all you as I do, I know and you know, how to use the search engine of QL and find out.
