Hi KM. I lived in Doha between 1979-1989 and returned for a brief holiday in April last year. You won't recognise the place, and the Corniche now has a really beautiful skyline. I can't help you much when it comes to recommending places to lodge (I stayed with some Qatari friends), but brace yourself for a big surprise... After years of life in Europe, I had forgotten how kind and considerate the Qataris are (yes, yes, yes!).
By the way, there are still a few people from the 80s working at QBS!!!
