I just wated to tell you that how cheep is the luxuory here. LOL. The rate is correct and quoted to me by one of the supervisors unless he told me a wrong price. If u want I try to get u Ramada corporate rate from one of my friends. he last time it was QR 450 including breakfast. now not sure. I can ask if u r serious about that. Comedy night is in the 1st week of June.

maybe that was the wrong title. lol. think i would rather eat than play tennis too. sl you are joking about that price. really if you are not then you are telling the wrong person at that price. i only want a nice hotel to lay my head and a couple of the days i wont be sleeping there as im going camping ( i hope) the only time i will at this mo be going to the ramada is when its the comedy night in june. you will see me i will be the burnt one.

The Ramada may be a good alternative. The new extension has opened its bars and restaurants which are pretty good. I have heard that the rooms are really good too especially those with the Arabic theme but I am not sure if they are yet ready. Give it a shot.

The Oasis is a dump but it has some charm nonetheless. The beachclub is shabby but the pool is nice and the people who go there are fun, friendly and generally good looking. They are mostly Lebanese but also other nationalities go there on Fridays and Saturdays.

The rooms are shabby but I have two friends who lived there for more than a year and they love it because they say the staff are really helpful and friendly. As E46 says, there is a Chinese restaurant there which is good and an Italian which is less good. Both serve alcohol.

The Oasis bar is really crap though. Full of Chinese hookers and deadbeat old white guys, loser Indians and other detritus.

My friends who live there pay QR400 per night. As a visitor, expect to pay abnout QR700.

Try to go down to Khor al-Uddeid (the Inland Sea) - it's still breathtakingly beautiful (albeit a little dirty in places) and a welcome change after all these years of living in a European capital.

I worked for radio and QTV channel 37.

Have a great time when you're there, but bear in mind that the place has changed a bit, and not just in a positive way - more people than before which of course means more traffic, noise and criminality. Gone are the days when you could leave things hanging around, and watch out for your cell-phone!!!

yes i have seen from pics on net that its has changed from when i was there. even here in uk sometimes i drive around and think wow that wasnt there last time i came this way. i did have an offer of a flat and house to stay in while i was there. (they belong to qatari male school friends) but then i was just worried about at the airport how it says you have to say a hotel you are staying in and giving a males name. also my mum is flying out after me and another women who i used to babysit for. what did you do in doha when you lived there. i left about 89/90

Hi KM. I lived in Doha between 1979-1989 and returned for a brief holiday in April last year. You won't recognise the place, and the Corniche now has a really beautiful skyline. I can't help you much when it comes to recommending places to lodge (I stayed with some Qatari friends), but brace yourself for a big surprise... After years of life in Europe, I had forgotten how kind and considerate the Qataris are (yes, yes, yes!).

By the way, there are still a few people from the 80s working at QBS!!!

I'm sure you'll enjoy the visit.

There is a restaurant in the Oasis, imaginatively called "Chinese Restaurant". Food, staff and ambience are pleasant, although ac a bit too cool in places.I am new to Doha, and have checked out all of the "Chinese" restaurants, and failed to find one worth going back to, and only 2 pretending to be really Chinese (the Oasis was not one of these - not a Chinese in sight).

If anyone knows differently, pls let me know.

The Ramada is a good suggestion as it has a lovely swimming pool area and you should be able to book it within your budget.

A good idea is to perhaps even contact the hotel direct and ask for a rate .... as a 2 week stay should be worth a discount.

Do you know anyone here that can book for you and get a corporate rate?

Good Luck.

Don't worry about Qube. It's not physically attached to the hotel and the patrons have nothing to do with the hotel. Besides, I know plenty of people who go there looking for nothing but a drink.

I recommend Ramada if it's within your budget.

And if you're not staying in the hotel for any length of time you could do worse.

The answer, "Swim in the tub".

thanks its so hard to tell when most dont have websites or photo's or give you a diffrent price over the net and the phone. i think im changing my mind about the oasis. i am living in the past i know. its just that i said i wanted to stay there and i got a bit of money knocked off. i wanted one with a swimming pool. i must get abit of a tan b4 i go home. i will be in doha for 2 weeks. my mum and another old friend are coming out after me. marriot is very expensive i think. if i was staying a few days then yes but it all add's up for 2 weeks. i am dreading this holiday. i was staying with a friend but then other people said they was coming with me and my friend went to visit her father who is ill. what im i going to do. i feel like i could just cancel it.
