Most restaurants allow smoking, either anywhere in the restaurant, or in a smoking area.
The main eating places that dont allow it are the UK and American restaurant/fast food chains. Also the food courts in malls.
The best guide in coffee shops and cafe's etc, is if you see qataris smoking then no one will stop you from smoking.
Several Qataris smoke in their offices where I work, but not in other peoples offices. I'm a smoker, but I prefer to smoke in an empty 'smoking room' or in the qataris offices who smoke :)
In theory, if your caught smoking in a 'no smoking area' you can get a QR 500 on the spot fine, but I dont know of anyone who has ever had one.
I would say that as long as you are a 'considerate' smoker, you will be very happy here, MUCH more relaxed than the UK or USA (thank goodness) :)
