Are you allowed to smoke freely in Qatar or are there restrictions in some places?

Threre is a no smoking in all work places, including bars etc., coming into force in England in July.

Ireland, Scotland and Wales have it already.

Ithink the Yanks have something similar already.

It's followed in Canada, Scotland and Ireland. IF you are seen smoking by police in a public building, bar or restuarant you are either kicked out by the establishment or fined by cops.

true what you said there gypsy but tell me how many will folow this rule. this rule will not be followed by many it will be broken very frequently n this will make law look like a cartoon or something. that is why i said befor makking or imposing this rule on public there has to be several other rule to be placed so that this rule can be affective

Sure. But banning smoking in public places protects non-smokers from having to put up with second hand smoke.

Is it realy that necessary to ban smoking in public i mean if at all the govt want to discourage smoking then i think there are plenty of option out there why to ban smoking in public i mean there can be genrral guidlines issued in interst of public but i think making smoking ban in public is little too much coz this is the last step befor taking there are other step also to be taken to curb smoking habbit n smokers

Hopefully someday they will actually ban smoking in public places! But I think it's a long time coming. :(

Most restaurants allow smoking, either anywhere in the restaurant, or in a smoking area.

The main eating places that dont allow it are the UK and American restaurant/fast food chains. Also the food courts in malls.

The best guide in coffee shops and cafe's etc, is if you see qataris smoking then no one will stop you from smoking.

Several Qataris smoke in their offices where I work, but not in other peoples offices. I'm a smoker, but I prefer to smoke in an empty 'smoking room' or in the qataris offices who smoke :)

In theory, if your caught smoking in a 'no smoking area' you can get a QR 500 on the spot fine, but I dont know of anyone who has ever had one.

I would say that as long as you are a 'considerate' smoker, you will be very happy here, MUCH more relaxed than the UK or USA (thank goodness) :)

Do people smoke in offices in Qatar?

The UK has been non-smoking for so long in this regard, I forgot it might be different over there.

And if there isn't general ban, do people smoke in your office?

As long as you're qatari... you can basically smoke anywhere you want even in air condition places.

...you're not supposed to smoke in a place but you just ignore it?

Does no one complain?

rarely does anyone pay much attention. Some restaurants in the big hotels have smoking and non smoking sections in their restaurants and (I assume) bars.
