We gave blood regularly when we were in Qatar, it doesn't cost anything.
Injection first so you didn't feel the needle going in, covered up with a blanket and then the bag is placed on a rocker to slowly draw the blood out (None of the squeezing a piece of wood to pump the blood).
One amusing incident was when two guys (arab I think) came in and asked the nurse if they could "give a donation between them".
