Many neurothologists have scientifically studied the healing powers of faith. It's got something to do with the amigdala and the cognitive behaviour. Of course there are lots of crazy religious people. No doubt about that. But the pure believe of a superior being is a human instict. I think you have to take religions as a form of explaining that superiour being and make a bit of sense to that.
