COVID-19 vaccine expected to be in Qatar within a few weeks, says official
Qatar has spared no effort in tackling the COVID-19 crisis to the best of its abilities.
Since the onset of COVID-19, the country has dedicated efforts to ensure the highest standards of monitoring, detection, and management of the infection, keeping the health and wellbeing of the population as a top priority.
In October, The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) confirmed that it had been in talks with several pharmaceutical companies to secure the vaccine and had already signed an agreement with Pfizer-BioNTech to supply Qatar with their BNT162 mRNA-based candidate vaccine against SARS-CoV-2.
The Ministry also announced later that it had signed another agreement with US-based Moderna, a Massachusetts-based biotech company.
Following this announcement, a top official from the Ministry stated that the first batch of an approved COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be available in Qatar by the end of this year.
Now, another official from the Ministry has said that the COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be in Qatar within weeks.

Speaking to local Arabic daily Al Raya, Dr Soha al-Bayat, head of the Vaccination Unit, Health Protection and Communicable Disease Control Department at MoPH highlighted that Qatar is just weeks away from receiving the vaccine.
The country may have the first batch of the vaccine this month or by the start of 2021, she mentioned.
The senior official underlined that the vaccine Qatar will receive has shown promising results with an efficacy level of over 90 percent.
The COVID-19 vaccine will be available free of charge for all residents, it was announced earlier.
"The first quantities of the vaccine could be limited in quantity, so priority would be given to the most vulnerable categories of people such as the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases," Dr Abdullatif Al Khal, chair of the National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19 and head of Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation had announced.
