For those of us that have to pay taxes.......

A tax time lesson

Revenue Canada sends their auditor (a nasty little man) to audit a synagogue. The auditor is doing all the checks, and then turns to the Rabbi and says, "I noticed that you buy a lot of candles."

Yes," answered the Rabbi.

"Well, Rabbi, what do you do with the candle drippings?" he asked

"A good question," noted the Rabbi. "We actually save them up. When we have enough, we send them back to the candle maker and every now and then, they send us a free box of candles."

"Oh," replied the auditor somewhat disappointed that his question actually had a practical answer. So he thought he'd try another question, in his obnoxious way...

Rabbi, what about all these matzo purchases? What do you do with the crumbs from the matzo?

"Ah, yes," replied the Rabbi calmly, "we actually collect up the crumbs, we send them in a box back to the manufacturer and every now and then, they send a box of matzo balls."

"Oh," replied the auditor, thinking hard how to fluster the Rabbi

"Well, Rabbi," he went on, "what do you do with all the foreskins from the circumcisions?"

"Yes, here too, we do not waste," answered the Rabbi. "What we do is save up all the foreskins, and when we have enough we actually send them to Revenue Canada."

"To Revenue Canada?" questioned the auditor in disbelief.

"Ah, yes," replied the Rabbi, "directly to Revenue Canada...And about once a year, they send us a little prick like you."

@Sidh --> when someone travels cross-country (like from Toronto to Calgary) why people pass thru US and not stick to Trans Canada highway 1?

Ans: It is not the quality of highway, it will be less distance if you go through US

Q.Would one consider Ottawa a city of any standards?

Ans.Come on Sidh!! go there in Tulip festival time , even there is no bus fare during that time. And that boat tour was just awesome. In ottawa most of the people are soo soo friendly, you will just feel like home.

Q.When I lived in Saudi (& mony other asian countries) the entire country is within a single network. Probably same thing happens in US.

Ans:NOP..you need to take a plan which covers your roaming charges. In saudi, may be they just have one carrier. In the USA if you drive from one city to another one it will be roaming.but cell phone usage is more expensive in Canada than US.

Q.do not forget that's a big source of income for CRA!!! People who come to live in quest of better life (& end up driving cabs)

Ans: In Canada our employers are little conservative than US, when they want to hire somebody if they do not feel comfortable, they will not hire you. In the USA an employer can hire you in the morning, and can fire you in the evening. :)sometimes Canadian employers want to hire Canadian educated people. no personal offense, but those people who end up with the driving cab, I think they are qualified in paper, but not in the field or they just lost their edge.

Anyway, I am not going to even judge Canada just by Toronto or Calgary. Canada can be proud of her health care system, zero tolerance on racism, friendliness of the neghbours and the natural beauty. And I strongly think, Canada made me a better human being, a better person, and a better father!!

God bless Canada!!

with the greatest respect, it is terribly difficult to try to understand Canada through middle eastern or eastern eyes...terribly difficult. In fact, its darn near impossible.

Siddh, Canada and the US had a choice to go with rail service or highways. They chose highways and have one of the best systems in the world. And I can't tell you how many mobile networks there are in the US because they are too numerous to count. It all got messed up in the free-market economy we have. No monopolies since Ma Bell died. I LOVE Canada, from Halifax to Victoria!

Myke....Canadians don't want to be taken advantage of by sake of passport, but do not forget that's a big source of income for CRA!!! People who come to live in quest of better life (& end up driving cabs) pay taxes, buy goods, invest on properties and probably many of them continue to bring foreign money even after returning to gulf as they retain some ties here.

QS: Comparison with US is obvious as they are neighbours. Aren't many things setup that way to invite comparison? When I see the stat holidays here & across the border i too wonder why are they so similar?

For a change comparing with somewhere else: Back in India (many of you maybe frowning by now) we have a strong railway network connecting almost every cities / towns. How convenient is it to travel by train in Canada and how easily they are accessible?

By mmyke• 7 Jul 2009 22:47
mmyke

I will tell you what.

Why don't those from the Gulf, who think that Canada is below their standards, leave their Canadian passports at the airport when they fly away....

Not on their last breath would any of them do that!

By mmyke• 7 Jul 2009 22:43
mmyke

that is why Canadians don't like to be taken advantage of by people fromthe Gulf, and other parts of this world, for the sake of a passport.

and hey, by the way speaking of cell phones.. here in qatar even calls from your land line to the mobile of your friend who lives next house is considered as a loooong distance call and get charged accordingly...

about airfares. From Toronto to London-UK (8 hours flight) you can bay a ticket for C$450 (about QR1500); from Doha to Milan (3,5-4 hours flight)it costs somehow C$1000-1300 (QR 3300-3600).

forget about houses prices and rent comparison.. just simply drop it...

This is tending to get personal, but the feeling dull or exciting is relative. and it is relative to what your likings are and what you expect out of your sorroundings. People live here happily for entire life & this country certainly has a charm, but like every other place has drawbacks too.

Since Tiger mentioned Vancouver, i repose my previous question what is there in Canada after Vancouver, Montreal & Toronto? Would one consider Ottawa a city of any standards?

If this country is not dull then why are there only 2 airlines operating??? Tried comparing air fares in US with Canada?

Let's talk about roads here.....when someone travels cross-country (like from Toronto to Calgary) why people pass thru US and not stick to Trans Canada highway 1?

Ever compared prices across the border? I know lot of people who buy cars from US rather here. I also know people who make a living buying cars in US & selling in Canada?

Want to discuss mobile services? When I travel from Southern Alberta to Northern Alberta, I am charged for incoming calls as they get 'long distance'. When I lived in Saudi (& mony other asian countries) the entire country is within a single network. Probably same thing happens in US.

And those of you who consdier Canada to be a chosen destination for people from gulf try to find out how many of them stick here after getting the passport.

No sorry feeling this time as I am not rude, just presenting facts.

sidhh, why you keep copmaring Canada to USA? you cannot compare them.. to start with, the population of USA is about 310 MLN. Population of canada is about 31 MLN.. so your questing about amount of airlines in the countries doean't seem to be legitimate. First european people came to USA almost 600 years ago and USA as a country is over 260 years old. First europeans came to canada less then 400 years ago, and Canada as a cuntry is existing for about 140 years.. Plus your question why most of population is concentrated along the USA boarder is not really smart. I think one has to understand that it has little to do with the southern neighbour. It's rather for the same reason why qatari population is concentrated in Doha only: because the rest of the land can barely be used for living...

if two countries are neighbours, it doesn't mean they suppose to have the same style... As the matter of fact, USA is developed much more than any other country, and much ahead than anybody esle in the world, maybe except of Japan only.. but Canada definitely has its own advantages comparing to USA...depends on what you want to compare...

thanks Roots for yr wishes......i am sticking to Canada and as said just before every place has pros & cons. i have passed these years by taking the brighter side (you see my avtaar has a Timmy on it) & ignoring the dull ones....but discussions are healthy at times...:)

Siddh, interesting how you feel Canada is dull.

Why does almost every country in the world have representation there. In fact Vancouver, which is where I'm from is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and one of the most ethnically diversified as well.

Sorry for being rude but I think you may be confusing yourself as being dull instead of Canada.

Why too are we welcomed whereever we go in the world?

Why when ever I meet people here in Doha, the majority want to talk to me and are just dying to go.

Sorry for being rude but again, I think you are confusing yourself with Canada.

Why not do something useful the next time you visit and actually explore the country. I've lived there for almost 40 years and haven't seen all there is to offer

Sorry for being rude but.........

I don't know to me I never felt that Canada is dull in any way. When I was a student we had crazy night lives, I miss those days- super D crazy. Even now, when we go any where we get amazing fun and my children are never bored, may be we have too many friends. @Sidh, anyhow, I wish you'll have a wondeful stay in Canada in future.

yes buddy camping spots are plenty here & i currently stay in Alberta, so have been exploring them. i was in QC last summer and do appreciate the natural beauty.

but, the cities are the ones that drive the infrastructure & economy of a country. if one compares with Canada's southern neighbor then you have a better understanding of what i am referring to.... and no wonder why most of Canada is populated along this border...lolz

Sidh,

You missed most of Canada. I think someone need his whole life time to explore Canada. I have seen even very little.I just can mention of some of real Canada beuties: Banff, Jasper - Alberta, algonquin park, saunt st marie- Ontario,Quebec City - QC, Victoria islam - BC, whole PEI and list goes on & on. I am going to miss a summer camping trip this time, but hopefully in Winter, I will have a wonderful ski trip either in QC or BC. :)

Roots...ppl always complain about middle-east, why so they go there still? it's a personal choice right? How many decent cities can you remember Canada has? Considering the size of the country is it not dull just to have 3 cities (Toronto, Montreal & Vancouver)? Having seen Dubai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, New Delhi I find this place pretty dull. Why i am still hanging around? My personal choice again........

PS - ya, the 1st one was kind of cool (though an oldie), i agree too.

A guy is browsing in a pet shop and sees a parrot sitting on a little perch. It doesn't have any feet or legs. The guy says aloud, "Jeesh, I wonder what happened to this parrot?"

The parrot says, "I was born this way. I'm a defective parrot."

"Holy crap," the guy replies. "You actually understood and answered me!"

"I got every word," says the parrot. "I happen to be a highly intelligent thoroughly educated bird."

"Oh yeah?" the guy asks, "Then answer this -- how do you hang onto your perch without any feet?"

"Well," the parrot says, "this is very embarrassing but since you asked, I wrap my weenie around this wooden bar like a little hook. You can't see it because of my feathers."

"Wow," says the guy. "You really can understand and speak English can't you?"

"Actually, I speak both Spanish and English, and I can converse with reasonable competence on almost any topic: politics, religion, sports, physics, and philosophy. I'm especially good at ornithology. You really ought to buy me. I'd be a great companion."

The guy looks at the $20,000 price tag. "Sorry, but I just can't afford that."

"Dhaa," says the parrot, "I'm defective, so the truth is, nobody wants me ‘cause I don't have any feet. You can probably get me for $20; just make the guy an offer!"

The guy offers $20 and walks out with the parrot.

Weeks go by. The parrot is sensational. He has a great sense of humor, he's interesting, he's a great pal, he understands everything, he sympathizes, and he's insightful. The guy is delighted.

One day the guy comes home from work and the parrot goes, "Psssssssssssst," and motions him over with one wing. "I don't know if I should tell you this or not, but it's about your wife and the postman."

"What are you talking about?" asks the guy.

"When the postman delivered the mail today, your wife greeted him at the door in a sheer black nightie."

"WHAT???" the guy asks incredulously. "THEN what happened?"

"Well, then the postman came into the house and lifted up her nightie and began petting her all over," reported the parrot.

"NO!" he exclaims. "And she let him?"

"Yes. Then he continued taking off the nightie! , got down on his knees and began to kiss her all over..."

Then the frantic guy demands, "THEN WHAT HAPPENED?"

"Damned if I know. I got a hard-on and fell off my perch.

A man breaks into a house to look for money and guns. Inside, he finds a young couple in bed. He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to achair.

While tying the homeowner's wife to the bed the convict gets on top of her, kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom.

While he's in there, the husband whispers over to his wife:

"Listen, this guy is an escaped convict. Look at his clothes! He's probably spent a lot of time in jail and hasn't seen a woman in years. I saw how he kissed your neck. If he wants sex, don't resist, don'tcomplain...do whatever he tells you. Satisfy him no matter how much he nauseates you. This guy is obviously verydangerous. If he gets angry, he'll kill us both. Be strong, honey. I love you!"

His wife responds:

"He wasn't kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear. He told me that he's gay, thinks you're cute, and asked if we had any Vaseline.

I told him it was in the bathroom. Be strong honey. I love you, too."
