There is always cultural differences and other conflicts existed between states of a federal country , this is not just case in India, but even societies that are considered advanced like in the US.

In US,

If you are a Texan, your accent is laughed upon and treated you are considered a cowboy in California. Or if you are from the state of Mississippi your are considered as a racist.

These are just opinions and perspective of a small group people and it changes from time to time. Just because the guys are arguing here it doesn't mean that they are Not patriotic.

Now coming to the second question, why your manager prefers folks from his state, that's his choice, but in my personal opinion the deserving and qualified should get the job whether he is from his state or country..

So part of comment goes for any nationality and not only Indian or keralite. Secondly guys we are frankly very proud of us being Keralites (Gods own country). India is blessed with Kashmir in the north and Kerala in the south. There is lot of history that we can be proud of.
