If your driving you should know this
I have been driving for more than a decade. One would think I would have noticed the little secret on my dash that was staring me right in the face the whole time. I didn't and I bet you probably haven't either.
Quick question, what side of your car is your gas tank? If you are anything like me, you probably can't remember right away. My solution is to uncofortably stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look. If you don't do this in your own car you definetly have done it in a borrowed or rental car.
Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the gas station or put your neck at risk of uncomfort or injury.
If you look at your gas guage, you will see a small icon of a gas pump. The handle of the gas pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the pump. If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left. If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right (see photo above). It is that simple!
I don't know how you feel right now but when I found out this morning I felt cheated!
Why don't the dealers share such importnant information with car buyers? I don't understand why this isn't in the drivers ed manual? I don't get why any mechanic I have ever been too or know has even thought of mentioning this to me? The only possible explantion can be that all these people probably don't even know!
Go out and share the worlds best kept auto secret with your friends as this is information is way too important to be kept secret.
Thanks for the explanation, and good to hear that I need not do anything about it =)
than the RPM input of the engine. On normal highway driving this function will save gas, as the engine will be turning over slower (lower RPM). When you are overtaking or passing, the transmission will automatically shift down to the next highest gear (or lower gears depending on how far you push the gas pedel), so there is no need to manually change the selection from overdrive on to overdrive off, the transmission will do this for you.
just a little clarification of the first post?~~~
I checked the car today... the symbol had the "hose" to the RHS of the symbol... so the car's fuel tank was on the LHS to "make the connection"...
so I guess it doesn't mean that the symbol being on the RHS of the odometer to reflect that my fuel tank is on the RHS, as I'd wrongly interpreted from the 1st post =)
Oh, and Hokey-Pokey, so what's the function of Overdrive?
(and we use O/D OFF when we try to overtake? this is a little confusing for me... )
Always drive with overdrive in the On postion, unless you are towing a trailer. The vehicle will shift to overdrive when the conditions are right
hey, thx lots for the tip!!!
I drove on the wrong side last month and when it was finally my turn to fuel up, he asked me to go to another counter! I had to re-queue... so with this tip, I won't have to go thru this again!!! thx!!! =)
btw... since we're talking about driving... is O/D (overdrive) ON better, or OFF better?
Thx!
helenann driving ? i am going to keep away from the road ...
This is an old one and it doesn't apply to all manufacturers. Infact , it was posted on QL a few week ago..
thanks for the tip, until now the most useful info i found in QL posts, :)
i am a fresh driver in doha so i assumed this hot topic was about some rule for the month i don't know about yet. anyway, that is a good tip. thanks so much but the forum headline really threw me off.... you scared me.
I always found that the petrol pump hose would reach the "other" side of my car without any problem, but I drove a low sporty number and that might not apply to a wide 4x4. Good tip, thanks!
Its a simple info albeit valuable.
