I am also in the same predicament because my kids are still studying in the Philippines and they will return to Doha on April 2014 after this school year. They exited last June 2013 and the RP's are valid till May 2014. Please do enlighten us here. Did you go to the immigration before 6 mos of your family's supposed return date or did you apply for the return visa extension weeks prior to their return to Qatar? That is granting their RP's are still valid and they did not stay out of Qatar for 1 year? Is it required to show proof of reason why they cannot come back to Qatar within 6 mos?
