these security cheques are misinterpreted here in Qatar. Normally, they shouldn't have been deposited in the first place, but have only been kept in case some damage is caused.
In Canada they deposit the cheque for the last month rent, and once you vacant the property, they reimburse the interest, earned during this time (it could be 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, etc.).
Security cheque is kept on hold, and later returned to the tenant if no danage caused.
I would say, go to the rent dispute court...
at least check with them what are your options..
