As for service, there are quite a few things to be done on your 80K service, e.g. wheel/ brake service, repacking bearings, re-torqueing the engine head bolts etc. If you were to follow the manufacturer's recommendations, there would be quite a few things more. Changing the timing belt involves removing the front part of the engine; that is, radiator, aircon condenser, cooling fan, fan belt/ serpentine belt, etc. etc.

The advantage of servicing the vehicle at the dealer is that they know what to do, and furthermore there is a minimum quality of service you can expect; of course, you pay for that extra quality.

In any third party workshop, quality is a big question. A few grains of sand in the bearing grease, and you would be bidding good bye to the bearings in a week. So, you see it's all about quality of work.
