it's good to see one's kids excel but this just seems so sad. this may be the right thing to do academically but recently the trend (at least from where i come from) has been for children to be raised as well-rounded individuals. i've seen fresh graduates like these in my old job back home. they are highly skilled and intelligent but they do know how to have fun and have fond memories of their childhood. it's possible to be artists, musicians or athletes and graduate with honors as well.

not all learning can be had within the four walls of the classroom. yes, you suffer for the first 25 years of your life and then enjoy the next 25 but by then you'd have spent the best years of your life (i.e. youth) just working.

but what do i know, i don't have kids :D wasn't there a forum topic before about a chinese mother who 'accidentally' killed her daughter because she kept hitting her when the kid couldn't memorize some poem?
