Many people who have reconciled their sexuality with their religion or social life and what have you don't really care about what homophobes say or believe in. They don't live for them. They don't care whether they understand what the word GAY means, beyond the sexual context, or not. They understand that those homophobes not only do they fear the word gay, but also fear the chance that if they actually talk with some gay people they will find out that some of them are really good people inside.
Homophobes don't have the ability to look into a person's heart or exert an effort to learn a person or respect the differences. They are often quick to judge, hate and verbally abuse or sometimes physically abuse gay people. They often have "smart" comments and a remedy for homosexuality when the science itself doesn't know a single cause for homosexuality, but homophobes do.
Mind you that some of those homophobes are the same ones that would have atheist friends, whom they might take out to dinner or a party. (Atheism and homosexuality are both prohibited in Islam) but for those homophobes, it is probably ok to walk with an atheist and accept his differences and not walk with a gay man or a woman. Can you spell hypocrisy ? Some of the homophobes engage in pre-marital sex in when it is not allowed in their religion. Some of them were partying and drinking during the new years eve when Gaza was being massacred. You would think that they would care enough about their "brothers and sisters" or even donating some money, but no.. they are too hypocritical to do any good deeds in their lives. They'd rather find a gay man or a gay woman and bash them. That's more fun to do for them.
And at the end they expect the world to listen to their hateful stupid opinions when they start quoting God or Mohammed (PBUH) and start telling people what is right and what is wrong. TELL YOURSELF BEFORE YOU TELL ME.
