I don't think tigers have ever been hunted for anything but sport & fun. There meat isn't tasty and while their fur coat would be pretty, it would be hard to get. We kill them now because they used to be able to kill us. As the more intelligent of the species its our duty to protect the other living things on this planet, not kill them.
