You can get a decent (by Western standards) 2 or perhaps even a 3 bed flat (fully furnished, probably with utilities and internet included) for about 7500 - 10,000/month - perhaps less because there are a lot of vacant properties around. You will need either a car or driver which will probably set you back about 2000 (for a Corolla or similar) a month. What you consider essential to your standard of living will impact on your expenses.

Consider too that if you enjoy a malt or grape beverage when you go out, prices are equivalent to the better hotels in Dubai and prices at the QDC are not a bargain.

If you shop at Spinneys (and no where else), insist on NZ or OZ beef and European poultry and produce, eat out a couple of times a week in Dubai, you'll find your saving ability significantly curtailed. If you can forgo the "name" brands and shop at places like Lulu - you'll do better. Clothing is another issue altogether.

Be aware that although rental prices have come down significantly lately, having an allowance vs provided accomodation is always a crap shoot here (as in Dubai) because what comes down can go back up.
