In Deism the God is considered the Architect of the Universe.
I think it started with the philosophy of Spinoza (Deus sive Natura)which is presenting a living God.
At the same period (17th century) it was developed in parallel the mechanicism (don't know if it is the correct word) philosophy of Newton (so called First Cause- the God was active only at the beginning)
So we can take it as The Omnipresent God (He exist in everything).
At least this is what I understood long time ago when I had enough time to read books and I must not feed a wife and 1,3 children
