I tend to disagree on some comment above. Cost of living depends on various province and cities in Canada. I live in Ottawa and while the cost of buying houses has decline in various province, Ottawa has beaten all those doom and gloom. House prices here stay the same or even increasing. I bought a 4-bedroom house with 2 car garage last year for $300K and now it is selling price is about $360K. Recession has hit hard on all province, except Saskatsewan and Manitoba while on Ontario the manufacturing and services was affected. While the global recession affect every countries, Canada's economy is still the best performer among wealthy countries. In fact by end of this year, it was predicted that Canada's economy will bounce back!!.
Moreover taxation here are fair for everyone, you earn more your will be tax more. Child tax benefit is also plus for low income group to help in raising your kids up to the age of 18 years old. As explained above school are free for every child up to high school. College and university is not but province has it's own way of financially helping everyone, who wanted to continue their studies.
I guess you might call it PAY LATER PLAN.
Hope this help to anyone thinking of coming over to Canada.
Cheers and Good luck.
