Immigration to Canada

Due to the economic down turn the world has affected us here in the ME, migration is among the solutions we can think of to perhaps ease our burden "financially". Canada is among those I can think of applying for immigration. I just want to solicit a few questions from the knowledgeables out there: 1) if the wages in Canada have huge cut in government taxes and how many percent will that be? 2) I'm trying to figure out the cost of living in Canada and if anyone has the experience to share with us, we will be most grateful. Thanks...

guy, how can you compare Canada to Qatar in terms of IMMIGRATION?? If we are talking about immigration, you can NOT immigrate to Qatar in the first place.. so there is NOTHING to talk about... Canada is your HOME from the first day you landed as an immigrant.. Qatar will NEVER be your home..even if you were born here..

WitchStix, yes, I will bring Zimbabve into it.. what wrong with Zimbabve?.. lol..

Atif, if you are approved for landing status (your residence) you cant wait as you have just a few months to immigrate once approved.

social security (post retirement) and lot of other financial and non-financial factors to be considered prior making such decisions.

Like extreme climatic condition, vast cultural and traditional differences, etc

There will definitely be a lot of arguments for and against immigrating to any country of choice, be it Canada or not.

The only point I want to make is for very many of us who are carried away by the enjoyment of Qatar. It is a peaceful country,family-oriented environment, very nice people and definitely, a place to call a home. No one would come to Qatar and would not wish to remain here. We all love it.

Though we don't pay tax in the real sense of it but we pay some money through other means which are not applicable in other countries; you know them.

Second point is this: No matter how settled and comfortable you are now,if your appointment is terminated today for whatever reason and your RP is cancelled, you and all that belong to you must leave, even if your children are writting exams. If you are lucky, you may get a respite to allow them finish their exams before you leave for the airport.

Most people who migrated to Canada did so, not because they love to pay tax (no body wants to), but there are other things Canada offer whivh are not here. There is no country in this world where you get EVERYTHING you want. This is no paradise. Therefore, whether you migrate or not is a personal decision but don't let the tax discourage if there are other benefits.

Cheers

First, even though Canada is not affected by crisis as much as other wealthy countries, it definitely affected more than Qatar. So it doesn't make sense to immigrate to Canada "due to the economic down turn"..

Second, it sounds like if you franceb have a chance to finalize your immigration process within couple of months… do you know that the process takes at very least 2 years, if you are lucky? Who knows where will be Qatar and Canada by that time..

Third, in order to submit the application for the immigration you have to be evaluated on 6 factors and to get certain amount of points to be qualified. But, even the fact of reaching the pass mark does not guarantee receiving the status of landed immigrant automatically.

As per cost of living, I agree with jayderinoz, except of may be one point. For the family of 3 I would put the minimum budget a bit higher, up to 2700-3000 CAD (which is about QR8500-10,000). As jayderinoz said, 2 br apartment is about -1200 CAD ( 3300-3900 QR), Grocery is around 500-700CAD (1600-1900 QR), plus car/clothes/entertainment, etc. is about 700- 1000 CAD.

Now don’t forget, in this “family of 3” usually both parents are working. Minimum salary in Canada is about CAD1300-1400. So even if both parents are working in Mcdonalds, they still will be able to keep up with the basic lifestyle. And if they worked in a decent company for the decent salary,- let’s say, the man gets 3500 CAD and the wife’s salary is 2500 CAD(which is easy to get!), - the family’s monthly income is 6000 CAD, which is already not too bad…

Did you guys notice one comment ? ottawa said, he ”bought a 4-bedroom house with 2 car garage last year for $300K”… 300K is about 1MLN QR. Just to compare: 1br tiny skiny apartment-cell in Perl(Doha) would cost you twice as much.… :)

nowadays. Its as not as effected as America but the situation is also not favourable too. I have also applied for Canadian Immigration but if i get the RESIDENT VISA, i will definetly wait for the right time to maky my move othewise I prefer Qatar as it's one of the few countries who has got very less effected by Global Crisis. Really, you can browse internet or can chat with any canadian too.

Ottawa, ON

I tend to disagree on some comment above. Cost of living depends on various province and cities in Canada. I live in Ottawa and while the cost of buying houses has decline in various province, Ottawa has beaten all those doom and gloom. House prices here stay the same or even increasing. I bought a 4-bedroom house with 2 car garage last year for $300K and now it is selling price is about $360K. Recession has hit hard on all province, except Saskatsewan and Manitoba while on Ontario the manufacturing and services was affected. While the global recession affect every countries, Canada's economy is still the best performer among wealthy countries. In fact by end of this year, it was predicted that Canada's economy will bounce back!!.

Moreover taxation here are fair for everyone, you earn more your will be tax more. Child tax benefit is also plus for low income group to help in raising your kids up to the age of 18 years old. As explained above school are free for every child up to high school. College and university is not but province has it's own way of financially helping everyone, who wanted to continue their studies.

I guess you might call it PAY LATER PLAN.

Hope this help to anyone thinking of coming over to Canada.

Cheers and Good luck.

Let’s not forget the provincial and federal sales taxes on everything you buy. Even death has taxes!

1) Well the tax rate varies with the amount you make but basically:

Up to 9000 CAD/year exempt

Up to 23000 CAD/year around 20%

Up to 50000 CAD/year around 33%

Over 50000 CAD/year around 42%

But keep in mind that you have a lot option to lower your TAXABLE amount. ( School, Medical, GST and etc.) If you decide to move to Canada get a good Accountant. He can save you more than you can imagine

2) Cost of Living does depend. Keep in mind that ALL HEALTH and EDUCATION (up to University and except for some private schools) IS FREE.

You can rent a 2 bedroom place around 1200 CAD/month up

Grocery can be around 500 - 750 CAD/ month for a family of 3 - 4

Basically you should be able to live with a family of 3 -4 with a average monthly budget of 2000 CAD.

If you need more infor , especially about Toronto, you can PM me.

Cheers

Well, a Canadian can answer your question. Search for "Canadian" nationality in QL and PM him/her.

.

Moreover, as far I know CANADA is also affected by FINANCIAL CRISIS so I would recommend that you must stay in Qatar & stick with your current job till conditions get better globally.

.

I have also applied for CANADIAN Residence visa but I will only take FINAL STEP migrating over there when GLOBAL CRISIS will start decreasing or ended at least in CANADA.

.

Till then, I’m very happy being in Qatar.
