hmmmm I will have to check but I believe that the initial Jewish state was not supposed to be in the form it is in today. No one in this affair is innocent.
The British were mandated by the UN to administer the area after WW2; obviously after the war the UK was in no fit state to remain the great colonial power it once was - it could not do the job forever.
Some Jews wanted their own state and attacked the British presence, some Palestinians objected to the influx of foreigners and fought the Jews, some Jews fought the Palestians. Remember that initially the British refused to allow any more Jews to enter Palestine but were over ruled by the Americans.
Once the Jews forced out the British they declared an independent state and set about clearing many Palestinians off their land by terrorizing them; Britain did not create the State of Israel.

In an ideal world we should go back 60 years and have a one state solution where Jews(now Israelis) and Palestinians share the same land under one state. For many reasons this is impossible and we can not turn back time. The extremes on both sides want a one state solution - but it has to be THEIR state only, not a shared one.
Therefore the only viable solution is the creation of a two state solution, which the vast majority of Palestinians and Israelis want. This will take compromise on both sides - no one side can win this war.
