Yes, but not in the context you mentioned penny. you asked "Do you honestly think that all the women Muslim men marry are virgins?" What does this have to do with my use of the word virgin?
VB, just do your research as to how Prophet's wifes coped with such situation. For me I think polygamy was a norm in those times and hence there was no emotional breakdown attached with such a situation. Nowadays, however, it is not the norm and women(first wifes) feel deprived of everything the moment other woman enters her man's life. It is obvious that what was norm then can not be restored now as the same Islam doesn't remain anymore.
Islam's stand on polygamy is clear. Now its upto followers to live with their choice.
As PM observed above there is only limited polygamy practiced now. When believers themselves are not happy practicing it why others go on to abuse the faith.
"In this day and age I think polygyny is sought out by selfish men who are often unhappy in their marriages but don't want to make the effort to work out their problems or don't want to divorce because of the social and family pressures. "
I am glad that you atleast understood muslim men go for polygamy for a reason..
Then, PM you see divorce more practical than second wife in this case? Why cann't it be that the man is struggling to save the honor of his wife? Otherwise is divorce so hard for men these days?
