Nica, I agree that the poor workers desperately needing a job for their families should not be made to suffer but they will, unfortunately.
As to why crackdown now - it's because of the recession which is flooding Bahrain with more illegal workers. So they have to take steps to regulate it before the problems get too big to control. If the problems get too big to control, Bahrain's citizens and legal workers WILL be adversely affected. Cause and effect. Primary responsibility towards its own citizens and to a lesser extent, workers with proper work permits or companies with proper licence to conduct business.
