Bahrain launches crackdown on illegal workers
Bahrain has launched a major crackdown after it was discovered that nearly 21,000 companies were breaking the country's labour laws.
Labour Ministry officials said they are also investigating a further 5,000 suspected ghost companies, set up to cash in on visa racketeering.

Pity the place is only a tiny island.....
And yes, they do pay a hell of a lot of cash to come here, and get forced into prostitution.
Obviously, someone high up the chain is making a lot of money from them.....

I think you have me confused with someone who gives a sh1t.
Has Bahrain actually got a population exceeding 21,000 ??
The sad thing is that many of these "illegals" have paid large sums of money to "sponsors" and they will end up repatriated and in debt..
They are taking a step in the right direction.
Lets hope they can curb the vast numbers of " Ladies" here as well, cos it's bordering on ridiculous nowadays.Cant go to ANY bar, including the top places, without seeing a swathe of them.

Agree with MD - if the authorities are not careful, the black market will thrive ... again, unfortunately.

Nica, I agree that the poor workers desperately needing a job for their families should not be made to suffer but they will, unfortunately.
As to why crackdown now - it's because of the recession which is flooding Bahrain with more illegal workers. So they have to take steps to regulate it before the problems get too big to control. If the problems get too big to control, Bahrain's citizens and legal workers WILL be adversely affected. Cause and effect. Primary responsibility towards its own citizens and to a lesser extent, workers with proper work permits or companies with proper licence to conduct business.

Human trafficking at its best! Bravo, Bahrain.
when these workers desperately need a job for their families? I think the authorities knew this issue long before the recession but what a timing for cracking-down.
21,000 companies? these numbers are not a joke!
