Just read this one. Way late, I know. But I'm suspicious. I'm trying to check if he really wrote that. If he did, then I agree with britexpat and mandilulur.

Speed, can you please post the source/link of your article? I posted back home as well to see if anyone can give me any thoughts on it from there as well. For now, it looks more like someone out to discredit Tun Dr. M - and there are many who would resort to underhanded tactics.

I personally know people who have dealt with or been in meetings with Tun Dr. M. - people of true substance who don't kiss rear ends, no matter what the cost to their reputation or jobs/pockets. And their opinion is that he's actually a very good visionary leader and handles meetings well. Nobody dares to mess with him but do so behind his back, poke grassroots to act up and cause trouble, make mountains out of molehills. etc. etc.

He's not perfect - very far from it and has loads of faults, certainly. But a lot of good as well. So too the current PM Badawi, also with a load of faults but overall, both have been and are good for the country. Malaysia would not be where it is today without Tun Dr M. That is a fact which many who enjoy benefits currently fail to appreciate. It's like the Malay saying "kacang lupakan kulit" (Lit: "Peanut forgetting its shell") meaning forgetting from where we came from, counting our blessings. we should be proactive and move forward instead of backbiting and using underhanded methods.

I say that Badawi has done a lot of good - under his premiership, there was a fair and transparent election. There was a shake up in the public service and more transparency. Yes, corruption still alive BUT less and public officers were more careful.

How do I know? because I was a practising lawyer for 13 years. And I wasn't simply a pen pusher and order giver. I could have been but clients' interests were paramount. I did many things personally when necessary - including attending at govt depts to get things done and usually managed it. Over the years, I've experienced the improvements and that's why I say this.

Things were getting better. I hope it continues. Badawi was smart, but made mistakes - which certain quarters pick on to say he's weak. Appearances can be deceiving. He has strength of character, as does Mahathir.
