I have a question that I have always found curious - there is this long debate both obviously here on QL and from a couple of articles I've noticed in the newspapers about this whole decency issue, and how locals feel that foreginers should dress more sensitively towards the local culture. I don't think anyone here on QL would have a problem with this point of view (and it's a point of view just as much as people have the choice to wear what they want). The thing i find curious is in that case, if people are concerned by the decency of clothing, how come boob tubes, micro minis and tight revealing clothing is so easily available in the shops here? Go into mango or H&M, and u will easily find these items of clothing at prices a lot of people could afford. So if there are major issues with "indecent" dressing (and that very much depends on however the individual chooses to define that term), why are they so easily available in the country?
It's just something i have noticed, and I am not bringing it up to sound judgemental at all. But I think that considering that there is no law or regulation stating that all women have to wear the aabaya, and these items are so easily available, then there should either be acceptance of the women who chose to wear clothing they find available in shops, or the clothing shouldn't be imported. Of course women are going to think that it's acceptable to wear "revealing" clothing in public if they can easily reach out to buy it. I don't know how u guys feel on this point (I'm probably talking complete bollocks anyway :-P)
