The N word is an unforgiving, utterly disrespectful term that shouldn't be used by anybody, no matter what your skin colour. But to say that in some cirlces ( ie - African/American), its acceptable for a black man to call another black man a Nigger is hypocritical, no matter what tone its used in.
I understand the history of the word and I reiterate that it should never be used, but if someone uses the word on a daily basis, he could hardly get defensive if some moron decides to throw it at him one day.
