Britexpat I think so , they must have forgotten the reason for putting on abayas or they simply don"t know why they wear it and Allah knows best .
The muslim women should be modest and not try to show off .....
I'm a convert masha allah, I was a born Christan and I didn't really know , why we do the things we to as Christan , we just do them because everybody is doing it or because , our forefathers been doing this and so on..... but WHY never really knew why.....

So i guess being a born Muslim will be the same thing for some of them if not for most of them !?
