mufy - I really doubt the industrial area had much to do with Doha not getting the Olympics.

fieryangelinthesky - Qatar will have 80,000 hotel rooms by 2016, so that was not a reason. Doha was rated 3rd for infrastructure so the IOC weren't worried about the mobility issue either. Read the full IOC report.

The reason given for the rejection was that Doha wanted the games to be held in October though there were probably a few other undisclosed reasons too, but not those mentioned here (well, perhaps #3 on fieryangelinthesky's list, but unlikely as almost all major cities face that threat now).
