Thanks.  Actually, i just want to know if they do it differently in other banks like CBQ, QNB, Doha Bank, Standard Chartered, etc.

I have my account with HSBC. I just have a problem with my landlord, as they already asked us to vacate the house. Now, i still have a cheque as a deposit and he still hasn't returned it to me.  So i went to the bank and asked them to cancel the payment for that cheque.

Guess what, they said they can't do that unless i go to the police first and get a report.  Weird for something like this.  That is my account and i should have the prerogative to cancel the payment.  It is my problem if somebody tries to cash the cheque and finds out it has been cancelled, right?
