I used to turn up to teach private classes at houses - the maid would look puzzled - the Senora of the house would finally be found.... who would then be trying to remember where she had left the children.
More than once and more than one family - the children were
a) left at an after school club
b) left in a shopping mall play park
and it only was brought to anyone's attention because I had turned up adn there were no kids.
These mothers were often on medication such as ativan and the were going through their lives in a daze. Sometimes its the social pressure for women to conform to getting married/having a family that can lead to depression. They then have to 'keep it all together' and they do so with gluing their lives with medication.
