i agree gumby - a quick soft tap which causes surprise and not pain is OK.  but a real spanking or any form of corporal punishment is wrong.  it accomplishes nothing and only shows weakness and an inability to govern emotions in the parents.

of course things were different when we were growing up and i know spanking was par for the course when my parents were raising me, but we know better today.
