using the TV as a babysitter and ignoring them isn't the answer either.

research has shown that there are more effective ways of disciplining your kids.  the key is making sure they respect authority, and spanking them does not accomplish this - the only thing it accomplishes is teaching your kids that violence is acceptable when someone does something you don't like.
