Usually its a 2 year contract (or more) OR unspecified (ie open ended)....the only things stipulated is that after 3 months either part has to give notice (depends on how you worked there) amd after 1 year you get end of service pay (3 weeks worth of salary for every year with the company)...but that's usually it (they do not pay the rest of your contract if you were terminated early).
As for currency devaluation...tell me about it....my wife went to canada last summer and yiykes!
Most people are payed in Qatari Riyals, so you ride the cycle of the US dollar....if you are THAT worried, try to negociate a Salary in CAD, but I personally don't know anyone who gets paid in Canadian dollars.
