Standard Contract terms
What are the standard contract terms for a person from north america relocating to Qatar? I mean, given that the qatar riyal is pegged against US$ which is fast depreciating against major world currencies, for people coming from Canada and Europe, do they get a currency protector/adjuster sort of a clause in their contracts? If yes, what is the typical wording of such a clause?
Also, do most people move to qatar on an open ended contract or for a contract of a specified duration like 3 or 4 or 5 years. If the contract term is lets say 5 years, is there usually a clause in the contract that says something to the extent that if the employer terminates the contract before the maturity date for what-so-ever reason, then the employer shall make a payment to the employee for the remaining term of the contract? (ie. if the contract was for 5 years and the employee was being terminated after 3 years, then the employer has to pay 2 years salary (remaining term of original contract) to the employee on last date of employment)? do you see things like these in the contract.
any help/guidance/advice will be greatly appreciated.
Usually its a 2 year contract (or more) OR unspecified (ie open ended)....the only things stipulated is that after 3 months either part has to give notice (depends on how you worked there) amd after 1 year you get end of service pay (3 weeks worth of salary for every year with the company)...but that's usually it (they do not pay the rest of your contract if you were terminated early).
As for currency devaluation...tell me about it....my wife went to canada last summer and yiykes!
Most people are payed in Qatari Riyals, so you ride the cycle of the US dollar....if you are THAT worried, try to negociate a Salary in CAD, but I personally don't know anyone who gets paid in Canadian dollars.
Once again...good luck man.
Stay safe.
Perfection does not exist. The question therefore, is: what level of imperfection are we willing to settle for?
