On April 8, 1970, at 9:20 AM, the Israeli air force bombed the elementary school in Bahr el Bakar elementary school. The air force used F-4 Phantom II airplanes manufactured in the United States. It fired 5 bombs and 2 missiles, destroying the whole school building. 46 children were killed, and tens (at least 50) were severely injured.[1][2][3][4]
The Israelis believed that the building was a military installation.[5]
