Keshav,

It depends on the requirement that you are looking for your son....since he will be passing out as Engineering graduate, I presume he will be looking for a "more than normal" configuration for the laptop....

Here are a few useful tips :

1. Select Intel Processor at least Core 2 duo 2.16 GHz. There are simultaneously 2 processors working, if you need more applications to open at the same time....meaning, more resources at your disposal.

Of late, Intel Core I3 / I5 / I7 processors are also available, which means simultaneously, 4 processors can be put to use. These are high end models and a bit expensive than Core 2 duo

2. Look for a RAM of atleast 2 GB for faster loading of programs / applications, especially if laptop is used for business / professional requirements

3. Hard disk of minimum 200 GB. 320 GB is common nowdays. It allows more storage capacity.

4. A dedicated graphic card, like NVidia, etc. could be useful for professional requirements and also, for playing games, watching videos, etc.

Go for Dell / HP / Toshiba. HP is the most expensive of lot. Toshiba is more reliable and are cheaper than HP.

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A550 with Intel Core I3, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard disk, and other usual features like webcam, 4 USB ports, Network card, built-in Webcam, etc. for QR 3300.00

Hope this would help you.
