Thank you very very much for your detailed reply for my query. I wish to go for the Laptop which you have bought recently. Could you kindly guide me where did u pick it up from?
It depends on the requirement that you are looking for your son....since he will be passing out as Engineering graduate, I presume he will be looking for a "more than normal" configuration for the laptop....
Here are a few useful tips :
1. Select Intel Processor at least Core 2 duo 2.16 GHz. There are simultaneously 2 processors working, if you need more applications to open at the same time....meaning, more resources at your disposal.
Of late, Intel Core I3 / I5 / I7 processors are also available, which means simultaneously, 4 processors can be put to use. These are high end models and a bit expensive than Core 2 duo
2. Look for a RAM of atleast 2 GB for faster loading of programs / applications, especially if laptop is used for business / professional requirements
3. Hard disk of minimum 200 GB. 320 GB is common nowdays. It allows more storage capacity.
4. A dedicated graphic card, like NVidia, etc. could be useful for professional requirements and also, for playing games, watching videos, etc.
Go for Dell / HP / Toshiba. HP is the most expensive of lot. Toshiba is more reliable and are cheaper than HP.
I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A550 with Intel Core I3, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard disk, and other usual features like webcam, 4 USB ports, Network card, built-in Webcam, etc. for QR 3300.00
My son has just completed his Electronics & Communication Engg in India. As I wish to send/present Laptop as his bday gift, please suggest me the best configuration and its availability in Doha. Also, kindly provide if you know the approximate price. Thanks in advance,
Agree with Doha1402... but it depends what you will use it for. There are so many different uses these days you need to be certain what your MAIN purpose is and then target a configuration to suit. Dont forget, that COMPAQ is also a good option as these are actually made by HP with identical spec but lower price.
If your main purpose is surfing and chatting, then go for an Acer with built in webcam and wireless N. You wont need to worry about processor, memory and disk configuration.
If your main purpose is to develop hobbies such as Video editing, photo editing and sharing, computer programming etc then you will need to look at processor, memory and HD config a bit more closely. I will give more advice on this if that is your purpose.
Since you are QLer i am guessing you will use it mostly for surfing and chatting, so go with Acer... and enjoy!
1) reliable and in budget - acer fits this place the best. quality is good and the price will suit your pocket.
2) high end laptops for professionals : dell, hp, toshiba fit in here. their price is more than that of acer (for even similar hardware configuration). they are more reliable than acer and have better features.
3) ultra high end - sony and ibm laptops come in here. you also have dell and hp in this space as well. they can be used for home use but these are mostly recommedned for professionals. they are the highest priced and their features are just too good. for eg : the hp laptop whose screen can be turned a full 360 degree or the ibm laptop whose keys are fully water proof and infact if you drop water, you can even see the laptop throwing it out :)
If you are looking for budget notebook, Acer will fit very well....they are good value for money laptops, with adequate performance and relaibility.....I have used one for the last 3 years, and have had minimum complaints...only, for last 5 months or so, the fan is a little noisy
High end laptops include HP and Toshiba....they are reliable, efficient and will serve your business needs as well....
The important thing to look for is the configuration. Nowadays, minimum available is Intel Core 2 duo processor 2.16 GHz, with 1 GB RAM and 160 GB HDD.
